Understanding Drugs and the Effects That They Have on the Brain and Body

Addiction is a serious disease and one that is difficult to overcome once you are hooked. Prevention is probably the best form of drug control there is, so it is best to teach your kids the dangers of drugs and why they want to stay away. The information in this article will inform you about a few drugs and the effects that they can have on your body and brain.

Even though marijuana may seem like a very wide used and harmless drug, it actually can be very harmful for you. Considering that there are more than four-hundred different chemicals found in the plant and the smoke inhaled into the lungs include carcinogens that may cause cancer, it would be a good idea to keep this smoke far from your body. People that smoke marijuana on a regular basis also report feeling very lackadaisical, unfocused, and detached about things that would normally be of the utmost importance to them.

5 Reasons Why You Should Not Do Drugs

A young man was arrested by the police and was taken to the emergency ward of a hospital, after he knocked down an 18years old girl with his power bike, and suffered multiple injuries himself. I watch as he tried to resist police arrest. He struggled and yelled at the top of his voice, bleeding from wounds on his left brow, forehead, right ankle, knees and left forearm.

It took the effort of five able bodied policemen to bundle him into the waiting police van. He kicked and cursed as he was taken to the nearest hospital; he was actually bleeding profusely from the left brow and needed to be taken to the hospital fast. I followed the police van on a motor bike; I needed to see what happened at the hospital as the young man’s behaviour was completely strange to me.

How to Conduct a Drug Addiction Crisis Intervention

A drug crisis intervention or drug abuse intervention is a process where the family or close friends of a person who has a drug addiction problem confront him and talk to him about the detrimental effects of his addiction, both to himself and the people around him. There are several ways to conduct a drug crisis intervention. There are some who seek the help of professionals and ask them for advice on how to deal with the addiction.

There are also brief drug crisis interventions that involve several counselling sessions with a professional where they talk about the effects of alcohol on drugs to the body, general health of the individual, as well as his relationships with the people who are important to him. Counselling sessions also involve setting a goal for the individual to overcome his addiction. The effectiveness of a drug crisis intervention is not the same in all cases as there are some people whose addiction has gone overboard and are completely dependent on the substances they use. In such cases, more extreme measures might be necessary to help the individual overcome his addiction.

Signs to Warn of Drug Abuse

If you want to protect your family or if you think that you are getting in a dangerous situation, you should know what signs to look for to prevent things from getting worse.

Drug abuse might become a problem without you realizing it. This means that most of the times, patients cannot even understand when their bad habits gained control over them. The first thing to alert you is to find yourself neglected the things you have to do, feeling that you cannot do them or simply not doing them. This could be the case for you and your every day cares or for children that are failing classes and don’t show interest in their activities. You may also see that you are getting in trouble for this behavior, for example if your coworkers or your boss is complaining about the sudden change in your behavior or your teachers are threatening to kick you out of school. You might also be making new friends that no one likes and having old friends simply not talking to you anymore. Fights with your best friend or your loved one also indicate that you are in trouble. All these are signs that you are having a problem. They are the first signs coming from your social environment that show your problem might be getting out of hand and requires help.
